Keynote Speaker: Audrey Garbacik
Audrey Garbacik is passionate about scuba diving and underwater photography. Her ability to dive and capture underwater photographs has allowed her to create images that are appreciated by others. She desires that these images can educate the public about the need for conservation. Underwater photography offers many creative possibilities despite the additional challenges.
She will be making two presentations:
Underwater Photography
Join Audrey as she takes us around the world showing us the underwater world while sharing examples of macro, wide angle, up-close wide angle, and blackwater photos. She will explain about the different gear and configurations she uses when making images. She will cover the importance of lighting due to loss of color as you go deeper underwater. Other topics include strobes, snoots and how to position light to reduce backscatter, create texture, and provide depth to the photo. Through lots of example images, Audrey will demonstrate ways to create atmosphere. Learn about the many challenges of underwater photography, the differences between green and blue water, and why manual focus is important.
Having Fun with Your Photography
This presentation will show top-side and underwater photography and will focus on having fun. Audrey will discuss a lot of the frustrations she experienced as she learned photography and the evolution she went through with finding the right equipment for herself. She will share anecdotes from her adventures in capturing photos as well as favorite images. She strongly believes in taking photos to please herself and thinks this is a big part of having fun. Patience and stubbornness could be used to describe Audrey and she will show examples of when this pays off when doing photography. As with any art form, growing and learning never ends. Our art form is always providing us with new experiences.
About Audrey Garbacik:
Audrey is retired after a long career in the high-tech industry as an electrical engineer. This technical background has enabled her to understand how to best use her equipment to create interesting and beautiful photos. Audrey loves to travel and has dove extensively around the world. Travels include local dives in Washington State and British Columbia as well as the Caribbean Sea, Baja California, The Channel Islands, South America, Antarctica, Iceland, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Tasmania.
